Nothing is more transient than a pop music trend, but it is just as certain that trends are eventually revived. Trip-Hop is one example, which developed during the first half of the 1990s in and around Bristol in Southern England. About 25 years ago, its protagonists mixed Hip-Hop and Dub, slowing down the rhythms and adding atmospheric soundscapes. These were dissolved until they resembled nothing less than noise; then a female voice, mostly melancholy, was added. Trip-Hop is also the stylistic foundation of this Cologne-based quartet. Despite their youthful age, all four musicians are outstanding improvisers, breathing life into Trip-Hop, which often seems static, and lending its melancholy, idiosyncratic base note depth and uniformity.
