ACHT BRÜCKEN

Each of the six KLAENGSTERs has made a name for himself in the jazz world, not only in Germany, but throughout Europe and beyond. The Cologne-based musicians – saxophonist Sebastian Gille, trumpet player Frederik Köster, guitarist Tobias Hoffmann, pianist Pablo Held, bass player Robert Landfermann and drummer Jonas Burgwinkel – each have their own, personal voice on their instruments. They are driven by their love of experimentation and their curiosity to discover unknown soundscapes. In 2009 they founded KLAENG – Jazzkollektiv Köln. As young improvising musicians, they were keen to make their mark as part of Cologne’s long jazz history, but they also wanted to work independently and free from restrictions.
As their first project more than ten years ago, they launched the inaugural KLAENG Festival, which was followed by workshops at the Open Jazz House School in Cologne and the founding of their own record label, KLAENG Records. But so far, the six KLAENGSTERs have rarely performed on stage together. This makes it all the more fascinating to experience the Cologne collectivists’ improvisations live – also and especially because they are all outstanding composers of highly individual and original jazz music. After the concert, DJ Illvibe (aka Vincent von Schlippenbach, son of Alexander von Schlippenbach) calls everyone onto the dance floor.
