»Obsession, a constant fight reading, a bath for the soul…« Thus, Manfred Trojahn characterized his exploration of the poetry of the French surrealist René Char. Manfred Trojahn is considered one of the most accomplished vocal composers of our times. In his songs, he has interpreted texts by such different authors as Georg Trakl, Georg Heym and Clemens Brentano, Michelangelo and Pier Paolo Pasolini. He unfolds profound psychological observations within a variable, avant-garde formal idiom which nevertheless remains conscious of tradition and function. The festival ACHT BRÜCKEN has now commissioned him to continue his setting of an eight-part cycle of poems by René Char, whose poetry Trojahn has praised for its »haptic« element, its immediacy and touching effect – thus corresponding very directly with his concept of music, which always strives for intense sensuality.
