ACHT BRÜCKEN

The fact that Hendrika Entzian, born in Kiel in 1984 and a resident of Cologne since 2009, is an experienced band leader, accomplished composer and double bass player with a distinctive tone is no longer a news item: she has released three albums, the first two of them with her quartet, and in 2018 she won the WDR Jazz Prize in the composition category. Entzian, however, is continuously in search of opportunities to leave the comfort zone of the familiar behind and rise to new challenges. For Places We Go, she has made space in her study, so to speak, asking the musicians of her quartet to write music that is about images and narratives. She then expanded her band to a sextet, now including singer Veronika Morscher and guitarist Hanno Busch, with a view to focusing on the diversity and eloquence of its contemporary jazz. Harmonic surfaces and rhythmic layers continuously superimpose and overlap, while tonal "flow marks" make Places We Go shimmer with a mysteriously glowing light.
